Huntsville
Christian Church was founded on October 15 1843
in the thriving village of Huntsville by Elder William Lane who
came
over the mountain from the Plymouth Christian Church to
organize
a Church to expand the work of the Plymouth Church. A very
influential man in Huntsville, Truman Atherton who was appointed
the
first postmaster of Huntsville by President John Quincy Adams
gave
the land and lumber for the new church. The Church was first a
union Church, but very
early designated itself as Christian.
Huntsville Christian Church is the oldest church
in the Back Mountain area. Sunday worship has taken place on
every Lords Day since 1843.
Huntsville Christian Church was affiliated with the denomination
"Disciples of Christ" until 2005, when the
congregation voted to be separated from the denomination due to
its liberal views and turning
away from Biblical truths.
Huntsville Christian Church is presently an independent Christian
Church whose beliefs
and practices follow
scripture. HCC is an open membership church and you are
very welcome to worship with us.
